Fuse information needed on a 1986 volvo 240 DL
Hello Communty!
A friend of mine recently picked up a 1986 Volvo 240 DL 4 speed (manual) in nice mechanical condition. There are several minor issues with the car which we are attempting to resolve, including brake and backup light malfunction, wiper malfunction, and slight shuddering when accelerating in first.
When checking the fuses, I noticed the panel cover was missing, and hence the information regarding the functions for each fuse. I also noticed these are a ceramic type fuse, with an open element. If anyone can provide some assistance discovering the functions of these fuses, it would be appreciated. I am also wondering if it is possible to replace these fuses with a glass type, similar to a bus fuse, or even if this would be a good idea?
Your time is appreciated,
Kevin

This is what my book tells me.
1. Cigar lighter tailgate wiper 8amp
2. Front wipers heater fan horn 16amp
3. Heated rear window overdrive 16amp
4. glovebox light reverse lights heated drivers seat 8amp
5. instruments indicators warning lights seatbelt warning light 8amp
6. hazards engine compartment light 8amp
7. clock fuel pump 16amp
8. brakelights domelight 8amp
9. ignition buzzer 8amp
10.spare
11. left hand parking lights rear fog light 8amp
12. right hand parking lights instrument panel lights 8amp
You should be able to switch to the glass fuses without a problem.
You might also want to remove the fuses and clean the fuse box really good they are known to corode.

If you did not already know it Buss makes pointy end fuzes that are an exact glass replacement. When I first changed mine I kept blowing the turn signal. After 3 fuxes it stopped. I guess I got a few bad ones.
Thanks for the excellent information!
I have seen those fuses from Buss before, and thought perhaps they were for that purpose.
Now, the only issue remaining is the shuddering which occurs when accelerating in 1st gear, and to a lesser extent 2nd. The original owner of this car said this is a 'normal' occurence for Volkswagons, I must disagree.
Any further advice you can provide would be appreciated!

The vibration you speak of sounds like a tailshaft centre bearing. This is somewhat of a common problem with 240's. I've never been able to totally fix it with my 240's, but you can try getting a new centre bearing rubber, or try using a stiffer spring on the bearing (this worked on my 84' 240, but it did make a squealing noise because of it for awhile).
