Gauge tells me it is overheating (posted in Nov 2010)
I have an 88 240 DL wagon. I have owned for about 6 months, and totally love it!!!! It has approx 90k miles on it, and the only prob since I have owned it, is that it seems to run hot....I live in AZ, and I purchased the car in July!! The AC worked pretty good, but after about a month it started over heating while sitting at a stop light, so I would turn the heater on full blast and that would remedy the prob. It has a brand new radiator, my husband put a new t-stat in it (hopefully I don't need a special one), and the fluids are good. Since then it overheats more often, and the heater trick doesn't work anymore, the gauge just seems to pop right below the orange, I have pulled over and opened the hood, and there is no hissing sound, and the engine actually feels cool. Here is what is weird when I was putting the heater on to try and cool the engine, every time I hit a bump there was a sound like a coin dropping behind the dash board??? I now drive around not looking at the thermostat gauge, since it always reads hot, and no longer put the heater on, the coin sound is gone, but I want to know if anyone knows why it is still reading hot??? Thanks for your help
