v70 breather problems (posted in Nov 2010)
Hi - have my 2001 2.4 t v70 in at a local volvo garage for engine idle fault - they state it is likely to be the breather pipes under the manifold etc that have become blocked - they have taken it off and yes its solid with deposits etc - replacement and labour over £500 !!!!!!!!!! They are now saying that where the pipes fit the sump/block they are also solid with carbon and the sump needs to come off so it can be cleaned out - another 3 hours plus labour !!!!!!!!! - Does this sound feasible ? I am gobsmacked with the labour times etc and am facing a potential bill near to £975 - does anyone know anything to help me make a choice as to get the work done or not - thanks - a troubled and possibly skint volvo owner
That is normal service for these cars. You can do the work yourself but if they already have it apart you should let them finish the job.
I believe the owners manual state the system should be replaced / cleaned every 60,000 miles (96,000 km).
