Glove box assembly help
I drive an 87 Wagon. About a year ago the brown plastic interior facing on my glovebox fell off because the glue had finally worn out after 25 years. The lock assembly fell apart too. I thought I put it back together right, and used some epoxy to put the facing back on the front. I missed a washer or some small part in the assembly though because now the lock assembly rotates freely and the door falls open anytime I hit a pothole / slam a door / the wind blows. I can get the part to fix it, but My question is how can I pry off the facing to fix it right without cracking it? It's that hard plastic interior that gets so brittle. Or is there a way to remove the lock assembly without removing the facing of the glove box? Thanks for any help .

if you used an epoxy to glue the front on, its going to be impossible to get it off again without destroying it.
I used 3M weather stripping cement, aka 'gorilla snot' to fix our 87's with the same symptom, even when dried, its rubbery enough you can slice through it with a guitar string 'garrote' style...
its been too long since i looked at one to know how the lock comes apart. the parts diagram isn't much help, but I don't think the face comes off to replace the lock, there's a washer on the back side that IIRC is a slide-in type ... here's the parts diagram.
see parts 41 (lock) and 43 (washer) ... maybe you just need to adjust 43B, the hasp that the lock tab holds ?
