A great 240 story
A few months back, I was driving through a small country town near where I live. I spotted a really nice looking pre-1980 242, maroon, w/manual trans. I left a business card on the windshield, "If you're ever interested in selling", etc. Didn't hear a thing.
A couple of days ago, I got a call. "You interested in any parts off of that '77 240?. It got totalled yesterday." He talked about what a great car it was, "I had no idea how many miles were on it. A lot, but nothing really wrong with it, I'd drive across the country."
He hated that it was gone, but said: "It did it's job. We got t-boned by a Honda Civic going about 30 mph. My son and I unfastened our seat belts, opened the doors, and walked away." He said the Civic was, in Alabama parlance, "all tore up."
That's why we love 'em!
