What do i need to test is things are getting power?

Hey quick question. If i wanted to test some electrical things in my car, like lets say the aux cooling fan. What tool would i use i cannot think of the name of it. A volt meter? im not sure. Thanks.

Digital Volt Ohm meter is handy and so is a 12 volt test light ... all can be had cheap at places like Auto Zone - Advance Auto and even WalMart
