Default New volvo owner..

Alright so a few questions if any of you guys can give some insight was planning on changing the harmonic balancer this weekend on a 2000 s70 i believe its the same engine as all of yours but now reading this i have a few questions so here we go would i be better off just doing the crankgear and harmonic together and replacing the seal while doing that looking like i may have a oil leak in the area but cams were just resealed so maybe thats what that mess is ..task at hand is fixing a wobble sound looks to be a little play in the balancer but timing was just done so id rather not have to mess with the timing and maybe do the crank seal and crank gear when i do the timing belt next.. sounds like the balancer should be pretty easy to get off with an impact and heat if necessary.. but now getting the new one on am i gonna have to worry about the timing slipping do i have to lock up the crankshaft and or cams and is there a certain torque i should set it at or just nice and tight.. and finally this key your all talking about so thats basically just a washer seperating the balancer and crank itself from what im getting so just keep my open for that or get a new one right.. i appreciate any and all insight started to think i kinda jumped into this purchase without enough knowledge so call me stupid but please explain why im stupid so i can try and understand these engines better

no, an S70 has a *completely* different engine, a 5 cylinder modern all alloy block, probably DOHC, etc, transverse mounted, FWD (or AWD on select models).

the 240/740/940 this forum section covers are cast iron 2.3L 4 cylinders, mounted longitudinally, with rear wheel drive. the basic engine design goes back to the 1950s with various updates incrementally over the decades it was used.
