Default Headlamp Issues

So I noticed a little while ago that my early 1989 240 DL Wagon's daytime running lamps/dim lights weren't lighting up at all (1st and 2nd position on the light ****), so I went ahead and after checking to make sure the fuses were ok, replaced the headlight relay, the headlight step relay, the headlight switch, and both bulbs, but my headlights *still* don't come on. My high beams work, and if I put my light **** to the high beams position (3rd position) and then pull the high beam handle I can get it to switch between high beam and what I think is low beams but only when the light **** is on the high beam position (3rd position). Any idea what to try next? Im completely at a loss but don't want to have to get charged a ridiculous amount to get it fixed professionally. The only thing I could possibly think affected things electrically is I recently wired in a new stereo unit, but logically I don't see how that could've done it.
