Default Heater Core replacement

........ Any one have a handy link to a step by step write up!?

Our 78 242 decided to start blowing smoke from the vents and fogging up the windows bigtime. Is this the tell tale sign of a bad heater core, or is there any other culprit parts? Thanks!

It looks like all Volvo forums everywhere are being deserted lately- hopefully just holiday travel keeping them empty!

That definitely sounds like the heater core- read through this if you haven't already...

Not that I'm much more help, giving you FAQs on the later series. Trying to find where I saw someone describe their ordeal- actually, I think on 240s you can save a lot of time and cut into the side of the heater with a dremel tool.

Don't go overboard on this. It may only be a high humidity or a frozen evap causing the problem. The most obvious question is do you smell antifreeze. If so then you have a leak. Also do you have any antifreeze on the floor of the car or the floor of your garage. What were the conditions when you got the mist out of the vents. Has it done it again. Does it do it with the AC on or with the heat on. Smell would be the key.
