Default Heater Fan Question

Got a question for everyone. I am going to be doing a job soon that will require extensive disassembly of the dash. My heater/AC fan is noisy. Oh it works, but it makes a lot of noise. It comes and it goes, but it mostly comes. I've read about the various chain saw methods and the yardsale method, and since i'm halfway to the latter, I think that is what I'll do.

Here is the question: For a squeaky fan, what is advisable to do? Can I lubricate it? (and does that mean I'd have to get in there in a few years again?) I read that some people replace the fan motor, and others rebuild it. What are your guy's preferences? And if you replace it with an OEM replacement, doesn't it just wear out in a few years? Are there better solutions? I was going to order a replacement from FCP Euro, but didn't want to fix it with something that I'll just have to re-do in a few years.

What are your guys thoughts? My goal here is to fix the blower motor so that I'll never have to re-visit it. I've driven some older cars with heater fans that all work fine, it seems that this ought to be correctable. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

the bushing bearings in the motor are undoubtably shot. lubricating them would likely be a very short time fix. if I went to the trouble of digging out the motor, I'd be very inclined to want to put a brand new OE motor in. our 240's fan is still going strong after 25 years and 400k miles.

You could measure the shaft and the bushing housings and get sealed ball bearings to replace them. You'd still need to check the brushes and the contacts. But that's all talk.

If you get far enough into a volvo to get to the blower motor replace it!!!! That task a lone is a nightmare.

Heater core then blower motor hardest jobs to do on volvos hands down. Probably up there as being one of the hardest jobs of anything on any vehicle.

Well, I ordered the new motor. I got the VDO/Siemen's unit from FCP. I think that is the OEM. Anyway... maybe I'll rebuild the old one, and...probably never do anything with it... so maybe not...
