I am a volvo enthusiast a hobby mechanic. I am no expert for sure but I have worked on all my cars because... I'm broke . I bought a 1980 volvo 244 DL a few years back with the intention of restoring it but the rats have completely destroyed the wiring. It needs a new wiring harness and ignition Harness. The problem is I can't seem to identify the engine year. When I bought the car the owner told me he swapped the engine... I HAD/HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YEAR ENGINE HE PUT IN . There is no sticker. I have done tons of research and still can't identify what engine type/year this is (see picture below). The car has both a bosch 6 pin ICU and a chrysler 10 pin ICU so i don't even know what ignition type it is. If someone can help identify this engine it is so I can get the right wiring harness, and ignition wiring, you will have my gratitude and will have helped a struggling student get a car. I have more pictures of the car if needed.
phew. that fuel rail and intake manifold suggests early LH 2.0 injection, like an 83-84 car? its a bastard, good luck figuring what harness to use, there's a lot of crimp splices on the existing harness. you might pull the passenger footwell outside panel and see what PN is on the ECU which should be installed down there just forward of the passenger front door lower hinge, that might narrow it down, using the ECU version table here: https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/Eng...ReferenceChart also check the PN on the mass airflow meter (MAF) thats in the intake air hosing ...
I'm with Hoonk, find a clean running ugly Toyota if you want low TCO (total cost of ownership). This car is a nightmare as-is.
