My gf's '87 740 hood had an unfortunate mishap with a drunkards knife - stabbed in the center and poked a hole as well as a couple of significant dents. And a salvage one is rarer than hens teeth in the Portland area.

Is a '91 740 hood compatible? It appears to be a lighter gauge steel and the washer jets are a different design, but otherwise looks very similar.

And the liner is much nicer too! Currently, the existing liner is supported by the oil cap and strut mounts.

No. A 1987 740 hood is compatible with 1984-1989 740's. 1984-1987 760.

Is there a thread where this is all parsed out? I remember seeing compatibility for seats, but couldn't find anything for body parts.

Also, what about the hood liner, is there a way to take what's there and support it better so it doesn't hang on the engine? Or could the liner from the '91 be modified to fit the '87?

 

A hood liner is just a piece of insulation material. You can probably adapt it by putting the holes in the right places as needed. But why do that? You don't really need it, it's for extreme weather. Just get rid of it.
