Default how to test AC compressor...1990 240

so my AC has never worked since I got the car. it's an updated system (r134) and seems to have freon in there. but I don't think the compressor turns on. it may be the switch on the dash failing. is there a way to test the compressor by wiring it to the battery or something? I just want to make sure it's the switch before I order a new one from IPD...

jump the switch thats on the AC dryer/reciever, and see if it comes on when the engine is running and the ac is turned on. that switch disables the AC if there's low freon pressure...

there's also a switch on the radiator, this triggers if the engine is too hot, and disables the AC so it can cool off.

You can apply direct current to the compressor (+). There is a connector right there next to it clipped to the block. This will tell you if the switches are the culprits or the compressor is dead.
