So i just bought a 1990 240 wagon 5 speed base trim. And the back hatch was replaced at some point in its life and wasn't aligned properly. Iv tried every thing i can think of to get it to go back in to place but no it was a no go. So i finally took the hatch off the car. And the more i look at it doesn't look like a 240 hatch but the badges on the door claims its off a donor 240 DL. But im just not sure any suggestions.

 

Get a replacement that matches your year model from a junk yard.

 

I believe that the hatch was changed slightly after '89 to enlarge the rear window. Perhaps someone put the wrong model year hatch on it. Do some research to find out when they changed and try to get the proper hatch for your model year.

 

lets see. tailgate (sheet metal part) for a 87 240 wagon is 9127616 (replaces 1315912, 1315486)

the 1989 page says, same.

1990+ uses 9127615 (replaces 1382367). the 1993 page says the same thing.

hinges changed in 1992.
