Ignition lights up but no crank.
82' 244 GL
So recently my windows stopped rolling down. After checking fuses I decided to check the power window relay in the center of the dash. I found it totally melted, meaning it definitely was the relay that was causing my window issue. Once I unplugged the relay so that I could swap it out, I came to find that now my car wont start. Turn the key, accessories on, but no crank. I asked some people on reddit, but most said I just probably unplugged something relating to the ignition. I'm almost certain I did not, and after looking around in the dash for about an hour I found nothing out of the ordinary.
Please help! I would just take it to a shop at this point, but I cant afford to waste money on a tow truck. If anyone has any clue how unplugging the power window relay could have caused this, please let me know. What are some things I should check for?

How about, replacing the relay or reinstalling it (if you think removing it caused the no start - then put it back in!)
This guy has a great website showing all sorts of Volvo info (relay page for you)

Or - the starter circuit is very simple - with an auto trans the neutral starting switch can be a problem - lift up the shift indicator housing (2 screws) There is a white pointer that lines up with park and neutral. Sometimes if you push the shifter to the right (perhaps while trying to get to the starter relay behind the console) the white pointer will become disconnected from the pin on the shifter it's supposed to be connected to. And the starter won't engage.

The second you said neutral starter I knew exactly what was wrong. Embarrassingly ... the auto shifter was in gear, because when I took the dash apart I had to pull the shifter back to make space. Thank you, and curse me.
I've had this problem before and the advice here sounds familiar. My question is, because my mind drains out good advice like a sieve, is this also applicable to a 1993 240 wagon with auto? Thanks. I always find Forum advice to be better than manuals.
OK folks. I'm back with a wrinkle on this issue.
My battery is seriously discharged after sitting for months. It will be replaced to eliminate that power source as a cause of my problem.
With a jumper attached I got ignition lights, nice and bright. BUT no starter activity.
When I moved the shifter with key at start position I still got nothing.
THEN when I pushed the Shift Lock Override button the lights went out, ALL DEAD. NOTHING. It also interrupted the power on the jumper at the battery. The jumper still has its charge. I turned the jumper back on but still nothing on the dash with ket ON.
HELP. I have the Bentley Service Manual for 240. But I don't know where to start.
PLEASE HELP.
Thanks.
