Ignition lock cylinder damage
Hi folks!
My daughter owns a 1985 240 DL. While down at the University of Louisville, someone broke out her driver's side window and it looks like they attempted to get the car started by jamming something into the ignition lock.
The problem I'm facing is that she is telling me that when she inserts the key (and there is some resistance) the key will not turn to start the car. I'm guessing the tumblers are damaged.
So, can you replace the lock with a new lock that comes with the ignition key? If so, where can you acquire one? I've searched several locations with no luck.
Thank you!!!

A frugal solution would be a used stering column lock/ignition lock with matching key from a place such as Voluparts.com in atlanta 404 352-3402. You might be still able to order a new part from Volvo. If so they will have a record of the original key code and will manufacture a new steering column lock to fit your existing key.
Does an 85 use a different smaller key for the door? If so changing to a different ignition key won't matter as much.
The steeering column lock is bolted to the column with 2 security bolts - the heads break off when installed and have to be drilled or manipulated out. If someone could do that - get the column lock off the column to unlock the steering - the car would be driveable by simply turning the ignition switch with a screwdriver (after unbolting the switch from the column lock)

I just took apart a 740 and I got those break off bolts out with a hammer and a centerpunch. Just made a dimple and then got them going . They weren't that stubborn and once I broke them loose, tiny needle nose pliers turned them rest of the way. I think they were sort of down inside a hole so it looked tricky.. cutting a slot with a dremil and using a screwdriver might work at least if you want to reuse them..
