Default Ignition lock cylindar

Yesterday I went to start my '99 T6 and the key would just spin around and around. Finally after jiggling the steering wheel, playing with the key & praying, it would finally engage to the first position, then after more of the former, the second, and finally I got the car started. This is now routine every time I try to start the car. Also, I have noticed that the keyless entry has been acting goofy where the car won't lock until I get back in the car and start it, shut it off and then it will lock. Now the trunk release button doesn't work but the car will lock & unlock. Is this possibly related or just coincidence? I would rather not pay $200 for a new ignition lock if it just needs a $2 battery for the remote.

Thanks.

That's what I thought. OK, now how do you repalce the lock cylinder? Should I replace the ignition switch while I'm at it? WIll any of this require reprograming my key? Thanks in advance.

It will not require reprogramming the key.
The electrical part of the switches hold up pretty good.
It is best to remove the entire column to replace it.
It is pretty easy to get out.
