Bought an '01 S60 and got two keys. One starts the car, the other returns START PREVENTED error. This car supposedly had ignition lock replaced. Questions: The keys still open doors and fit ignition so it seems the pattern is the same even if lock was replaced. Does Volvo provide matching replacement for lock? The pattern on the keys look different but both open doors and glove box. whats the procedure when Volvo service replaces a lock in ignition column.

 

You should be able to have the inoperable key recoded for less than $50 from your Volvo dealer.
