Default Instrument Cluster

Hey everyone,

I think I may have fried my instrument cluster. I was swapping one out for a new one and I hooked up two extra wires in the spot next to the Spedo. I"m at a loss of what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the old one, can I swap the sped / odometer into my old one? Would that make it work?

Yep, basically I connected the red / white wire for the tach. I think it's shot.

Can I swap out parts from this one my old one? The problem with my old is that the speedometer and Odometer stopped working. Or, is that fried too?

Thanks.

Another question. Only the Speedometer and Odometer is messed on it, all the other things work (except the fuel gauge). Would I be able to out my old Speedometer and Odometer in the this one? The problem with the old one has stopped working unless we are on the highway for a bit. I think city driving has made it stop working properly.

Anyway, any answers soon would be great. I need to get this fixed today...

Thanks,

Craig

flakey speedo that works sometimes could be several things... could be dead capacitors on hte circuit board, could be a fried 'ITT UAF2115' chip on the circuit board, or could be the sender on the rear axle or the wiring from the sender.

Hooking up the red/white tach wire to the same post as the yellow wire will fry the ITT 2115 chip on the speedometer circuit board. Do a search on the forum for this and you will find multiple posts regarding this (many from me).

You could try another cluster from the junkyard and swap it but make sure that you match the one from your car. If you have ABS then you need a cluster from a car with ABS as the speedo circuit board is different.

An alternative, if you are handy with a soldering iron, swap out the 2115 chip. Google it and you can find sources on ebay for them. Someone else on the forum did this and was successful.

Me, I ended up purchasing a wrong cluster from the junkyard. So I unsoldered the 2115 chip from the jy cluster and soldered it into mine and it all worked fine. Purchasing the chip online still is the cheapest way to go but it takes a long time to get the chip (it comes from a slow boat from China).

Good luck
