Default Interior questions

Hey all, was just wondering how much effort would be involved in converting the lower half of the earlier 240 dash to the 90-93 style. It looks nicer, and there are two at the yard right now.
Also, both aforementioned cars had rear door speakers. How would I go about adding those to my car? Are the doors punched out for them, or would I have to improvise?

If it is possible, and if you work on the premise that "anything is possible", it is too much work to make it feasible. The speakers are easy, they just screw in... The car may even be prewired for speakers in the rear doors.

our 1987 240GL sedan had pre-wiring for tiny front door speakers, but nothing in the back. I opted to cut a couple 6.5" oversized round 2-way speakers into the rear deck. if you got no rear passengers, you can rock it pretty hard, but with rear passengers, well, its gotta be turned pretty far down or they get blasted. the front door speaker mounts are tiny, I put some decent quality speakers in there but had to use 'bass blocker' capacitors so the bass didn't shread the sound from them, and they just can't keep up with the rears.

afaik, an 88 is nearly identical to an 87.

I've got the upgraded housings for the 5 1/4" speakers in the front doors now, so I've got those in the works. I was just looking at the doors in the yard and those cars look like they have 4" speakers in the back doors as well, and neither car had rear deck speakers (one being a wagon, this is obvious). I just wondered if all doors are cut the same, and the rear door speakers can just be added in. If so, I'm going to get them and do a really nice system. I've got a box designed for two 6"x9" speakers in back, with a 10" sub and a small amp. I don't want to get ridiculous, but I want to be able to thoroughly enjoy any music I decide to play at maximum volume. I'm gonna pull my door panels off and look at them tomorrow, see if the holes are there. If they are I'll just run my own wiring. But my car being manual windows, I don't know if there's even a spot for a harness to be ran back there.

As far as the dash thing, I searched the forums but didn't come up with anything. The 89-down dash had a crappy cloth piece underneath the driver side, but the 90-93 dash had the drop-down plastic. I guess I'll have to experiment with that as well and see if it will work.
