Default intermittent but serious problem

ok so i got the carb rebuilt professionally along with a whole host of engine work,

it has never run better! its a 1980 240dl with the su carb.

the problem is i was losing fuel, i had my tank replaced and the pumps both mechanical and electric replaced,

i cut the lid off of a two liter coke bottle and inverted it, then put the bottle under my carb,

i drove for 5 minutes and it almost filled the bottle! so i drove home and left it for a few hours, i came back out and poured the gas from the coke bottle into my tank, then placed it back under the carb, i drove around for 3 hours and had no problems, not a drop leaked out, i drove slowly for a bit then faster for a bit, it didnt seem to change. so it was fine?

the mechanic says he cant get it to leak when he has it, they drove it for hours like i did without any leaks, he doesnt understand how so much gas can leak out of the carb without then engine flooding, it doesnt even hesitate, or smoke or bog, nothing, its not coming from the intake of the carb where the breather attaches, it looks to be coming out a small outlet port on the carb body,

any ideas? i dont want to blow my self up in a ball of fire so i would like to get this fixed,

thanks guys!

Holy crap, I wish I had your problem ~ I can't get fuel

No seriously, I had an SU carb on a British roadster that would leak out the rear overflow vent due to a fuel pressure problem. Mine was a failing fuel pressure regulator [too much pressure] as I suspect your is. If no FPR then the electric pump is too much for it and by design will overflow.

Carry a fire extinguisher if you must drive it.

Go see the guy that rebuilt that carb. He should take care of the problem.

EEEK. that car shouldn't be driven a block until thats fixed, or you'll end up with a giant fireball and the car burning to the ground.

Default tow truck

im going to drivee my other car to the mechanic and show him this video.

i think he should have it towed for me free of charge.

i payed 300 bucks alone for that carb, its a "reconditioned" old one.

this video should convince him its not leaking out my tank!
