Default Intermittent Cruise Control on a 93 940 turbo wagon

Cruise control quit working recently (most of the time). However, I got it to work once while driving down a long downhill at about 70 MPH but haven't been able to get it to work since. Probably worth mentioning the timing of the problem likely coincided with when we recently replaced the oil separator box. We unhooked some vacuum lines and removed the usual stuff to get under the intake manifold for this job but I'm 95% confident we put it all back together correctly. Also, the fuse is intact (position 14).

Any ideas where to start troubleshooting this issue? I've never worked on a cruise control system so I'm a newbie.

Thanks

i forget where it is on a 940, but there's a little box thats the cruise control unit, and its partially analog, and they die with age.

ok, the parts diagram is really vague, but I think its on the far left side of the driver footwell, tucked in behind the dashboard, probably not far from the stereo amp thats up there too. google suggests its a black rectangular box, connector on the bottom, part 9130207 or 9130081 (maybe some other numbers, too), they have a Hella logo on them too, as well as VOLVO.

You may want to clean the ON/OFF switch on the stalk--they get gummy and are hard to activate then. Don't have a great tip on how to do the cleaning though.

You may want to check the release switch on the brake pedal.

OK, good suggestions. I'll try them out this weekend when it will finally be good weather.

Thanks,
