I may be buying a 92 745. it has a basic old volvo cassette deck, and only dash speakers, the door panels have no speakers, but the wiring and hole and everything is there. door panels are the same as the early style 940/960's I've seen.

I'm thinking of using a pair of premium component speakers, making an adapter plate to mount the tweeters in the dash, and putting the main driver in the door in the factory mount spot. I measure the stock speaker as about 6" outer frame diameter, the speaker itself is about 5.5".

What speakers have people fit into their front doors? (don't bother to tell me how good the factory speakers are, they aren't bad, but a good pair of component speakers with a proper crossover will kick their butts). I would like the largest decent quality speaker I can get in there that will clear the window and fit behind the factory grill. I'll be adding a small discreet 12" sub box to the back to round things out (I already have this in my current wagon)
