Default looking at overhauling an '87 Volvo 240 DL

We've had this car since we got it new in 1987.

However she's showing her age and it's starting to fall apart around the edges.

Exhaust rattles like crazy, suspension is shot, wheels are warped from wear and tear, and plastics are in dire need of repairs, not to mention electrical issues creeping up.

The way I see it, if I'm going to replace things like the suspension, I should do an upgrade, like, get a sportier suspension and reinforce the chassis, as well as get some modern looking rims on the car (How big should I go? 15 or 16?)

What kind of wheels will fit? I know the offset is odd (5x108) but I could probably get some wheels set to that, plus I know there are other factors in the wheel fitment, such as having the right spacing so tires or rims arent rubbing the struts.

what are some things to look out for or to replace on a 24, almost 25 year old car that I may miss?

I also want to replace the plastic headlights with the euro spec lights. Both my bimmer and the volvo seem to be cursed with terrible plastics.

Any advice from anyone here who has restored their cars?
