low side ac port, bulb replacement dash board
I am trying to get the ac compressor to kick on. I see a charge port on the back of the compressor, but it look like it should be a high side port. anyway, i tried to locate the low pressure switch to jump the switch to make the compressor at least come on. no luck. that is it on the side of the drier isnt it??
lastly, the heater, ac, etc lights dont work at night. how do i get in there to change the bulbs?? on a benz they used fiber optics that were from just one bulb way back in the dash. is a volvo like that too? the car is a 89 240dl. thanks

89 and 90 240's have two ports on the back of the compressor. Beginning in 91, the receiver/dryer was replaced by an accumulator mounted on the firewall and the low side fitting was on the accumulator. Your car has no other low or high side fittings. They are awkward to access; most 240's of that period get charged and serviced through the low side only.
The bulbs in the center portion of the console are accessed by loosening the trim bezel that contains the ashtray and lighter. Two Phillips screws and two 90 degree connectors and it is loose. Don't pull it too far out or you will break the capillary line for the a/c.
