Default lower ball joints

I need to replace mine....typically, I'd just go for the high end name on something like this. Moog's got 'em for $80 a piece but that's a bit spendy at the moment. Have any of you had the chance to replace yours? What did you replace them with and how do they ride?

ride quality was a bad choice of words i guess. Handling is what I'm after. I guess the difference is too subtle to notice but there's a difference in handling between cheap and not cheap. The stiffer the bushing the better for what I hope to make this car into. If I could find a poly alternative I would. Moog makes a stiffer bushing than regular OEM replacements so that's my base line.

I may have to replace my wife's 940 ball joints too. What's the symptom? Whenever she makes a left turn (and just lately, also right), there's a loose rattling noise. Is that the ball joint, or is that the tie rod?

It could be either you need to jack it up and inspect and see which one is loose.

Thanks, Tech. I've been lazy. It's too cold outside!

I kkind of know the feeling it has been pretty chilly here in FLA as well. In the 20's over night the last week.

But that is the only real way to find out which one it is.

in my case it's a matter of not being able to align the car. I tightened up the hubs and replaced the struts and took it in to get aligned. The tech comes back into the waiting room saying I've still got some loose front end parts. (I love this part) The manager tells the guy "take Chris back there and show him...he does all this stuff on his own." Good lord was it loose!

It's pretty easy to figure out if you have something loose. jack up whichever corner you're concerned with and shake the wheel. There shouldn't be any play. You can go one step farther and tighten up the hub one notch to see if that helps. Mine were pretty loose. If that's the case though you're probably going to need to rebuild them soon. If you still have a problem then the ball joint would be my next suggestion....in order of ease of replacement anyway.

Good luck!

Nice! They even have a full poly front suspention/bushing kit including the lower ball joints! $550 is a bit much at the moment but....I think I can go with the cheap stuff like TedV pointed out till I can scrape up the ching.

Thanks Tech!
