Luggage Rack on a 240 Wagon
Hi all, I have some questions about installing a luggage rack on my Volvo 240 wagon.
1.) Would I have to drill through the roof?
2.) Does anyone know where I can get some instructions on how to install the rack?
3.) If I want to take the rack off for a bit, will there be holes in my roof?
Thanks,
Conrad

RE: Luggage Rack on a 240 Wagon
I haven't done this myself yet (already have a roof rack) but I saw this on Brickboard- seems like a good way to go- simple sturdy cheap...versatile...
and no body work...take a look

good luck!

I've done it, you will need to secure the rack properly by drilling holes in the roof (with care so not to put a hole through the headliner also) Then get a nut setter and press them into the drilled holes. I kept the screws and rubber pads from the old 245 at the wrecking yard so I knew what size nut it needed.
When marking the holes make sure your rack is pulled tight (two people needed) so your rack doesn't rattle in the wind.
I recently removed the rack and filled the holes with nylon panel plugs. Looks ok but not as clean as I'd like.
The rack makes a quite a difference in cabin noise from the air disturbance, and also reduces gas milage, for those reasons it is off.
The factory rack isn't made for constant or heavy use like some racks.
Hope this helps
