M45 4speed clutch fork wobbly no rubber boot
1979 242 coupe with M45 4speed
I replaced my motor and trans mounts and noticed the clutch fork all wobbly and the rubber boot thing was missing.
gears go in fine and does not slip....no grinding, (maybe a little)
Q:
do I need to drop the trans in order to replace or tighten? I want to wait a bit until I can buy the clutch kit that includes the fork and bearing bla bla bla....is there a chance of damage if I dont address the wobblyness soon?
Thanks

First of all, the clutch fork is sold separately. The throw out bearing is often included in complete clutch kits; occasionally the pilot bearing is included as well. The fork boot for later M46's quite common but if memory serves me correctly, M45's and early style M46's take a different boot. The wobbliness isn't an issue until it fails. I would address it as soon as I reasonably could and yes, the transmission must be pulled to replace it.
sounds good, one more question, my clutch pedal has a play of about 4 inches. It seems to come up short those 4 inches.
press pedal down returns to the same position, no less no more
if you place your toes under the pedal, you can bring it up those 4 inches and the pin that goes into the firewall moves(obviously) in. Cable adjustment maybe? or related to the fork and all that with the clutch?
