Default MAF issues.

Hello all, I am about ready to run my 89 240 off a cliff. After replacing every sensor in the 240 I am still getting a 3-2-2 (maf wiring) I’ve gone through 2 sensors so far with the same result. (One oem from IPD and another cheapo from eBay). All connections seem good with good voltage as well. (I also replaced the air intake box thermostat which I believe to have been the source of killing the original MAF) At times it will seem to run fine, cold and hot starts are good too, but every once in a while the code will go back on and hot starting will crank over a few times before firing up. Any help would be great. My next step is to check the ECU.

ps: I have also replaced the o2, coolant temp and coolant temp ect sensors along with multiple vacuum leaks.

any help or direction would be great. Thank you

Does that engine have a Flywheel speed sensor?

Have you checked continuity and connections as described below?

it does have a flywheel speed sensor. And yes, those connections are all good. I am now getting a 1-2-1 code instead of the 3-2-2.

ps. I just swapped maf’s and with one I get a 1-2-1 and the other I get a 3-2-2. Possible I got two bad maf’s?

I'd think you still have a bad MAFS all things considered, those things are tricky! Not rare to run into several bad MAFS in a row, it has happened to me.

+1 on what Lev says. Even the "OEM" ones you buy now are no longer made by Bosch - which is what came on the car from the factory. I have had better luck with used Bosch ones from the junkyard than I had with the new replacements. However, its rare to find a redblock in the junkyards around me anymore.

If I developed a MAFS issue and needed one I'd probably opt for a reliable rebuild service. I'd never buy a $40 or so 'new' MAFS, I just don't have any faith in that. I do have a couple of used tested spares for my cars.

yeah, I ordered a certified rebuilt oem (Bosch 016) off of eBay with a free 30 day warranty. Going to ask IPD for my money back.
