MAJOR PROBLEMS!!! what is wrong?
hey guys i have a interesting set of questions that hopefully someone can answer. Here is the situation:
about 600 miles ago my kickdown cable went bad and i replaced it with a brand new botch unit. I adjusted it and the car still would not shift initially out of first but once it got past that first shift it was fine. It could go up and down smoothly. the 600 miles was all done in one trip (going back to school)
Well the car sat for a week and then i took it for a drive to the store. On the way home i noticed smoke coming out hte front of the car as i slowed to a red light. I made it back and inspected the car the next day. I noticed that the pipe that was attached to the backside of the CAT was not attached. So i got that rewelded. I reinstalled the pipe and found only a small leak coming from the pre-cat flange.
So i decided to take the car for a little spin to see if things were better. They were NOT. The car seems to have lost all its power. It is very slow off the line and it still doesnt shift at the right time (but it did shift out of first just late (at about 30 under very very light pedal.)) The biggest thing now is that the car will not idle smoothly. It revs up and down and if you are is park an give it gas it seems to miss and putter before revving.
WHAT IS WRONG????? I have never had so many problems with this car in the 4 years i have had it. It has about 200,xxx miles but was running great until the cable went.
Also one thing i noticed that was wierd was that after the short run to test things out i looked under the car before i killed it and the exhaust was smoking. The smoke did not smell like water though it smelled like something was burnt. wierd right??????

The car ran great before the exhaust was reattached. It is not as loud not of course exept for the little leak from the flange. I couldnt really say what it smelled like. It was something foul though.

Like bad eggs? Or maybe like a dead animal cooking? Uhmm if the pipe fell down and was sitting there before you started the car a week later, an animal may have made its home in your exhaust. Cus it sounds like you have a really bad exhaust restriction as one of your problems.
i fixed the exhaust leak. I drove the car and it has no power The low end torque is VERY WEAK. The trans still is not shifting right and the engine is not idling right still.
I have no check engine light. What should i check and or do. I will chean the air sensor tommorrow but what else can i check to diagnose the problem.
Also the exhaust has no dead animals inside it. It was welded on sunday.

I will check the vacume lines. There is pretty good pressure coming out the pipe. It is a 92 240 wagon. One thing is that the cat did get rained on. I had it in the back of a truck over nighht and it rained. (I should have checked the weather) could this have damaged it?
