Was a manual antenna an option?

Was a manual antenna an option?
When I got my 1988 240 sedan, I noticed the antenna mast was bent. In the trunk there was no motor, but a wire with some sort of connection was hanging loose. I just assumed the previous owner replaced the entire power antenna assembly.
I found a salvage motor and mast assembly that is supposedly from a 240 sedan and went ahead and ordered it. When it got here, I noticed it was too long to be mounted to the point shown in the photo below, and the power connection for the motor is wrong.
I don't have pictures of the replacement antenna and motor just yet as that is at home, but its part number is 9162582.
Here's my big question. Am I wrong, or is the salvage company wrong? I was thinking that perhaps my car never had a power antenna, but was a manually extendable antenna an option on the sedans? Thanks for all the help you have been giving me this past week! It's indispensable.

When I got my 1990 240, I had the same thing going on.
The wire was just hanging loose in the trunk, and you could push and pull the antenna up and down.
I ended up taking it out (keeping it), and ordering a new fixed antenna from Volvo.
