Manual Sunroof for 94 940
So, Ive read some about people swapping their electric sunroof controls for a manual crank setup. But really havent found much.
I just bought a 94 940 turbo and the switch is likely out. Either way, if I can do a manual swap... Id love to do it. I loved the manual crank on my old 240.
How likely is this to work?
Can it be done on a 94 940?
Which models/years can I get parts from that will work?
Thanks!

Sure it can be done. Any 740 GL will generally have the manual. All you need is the recessed crank cover, the crank and the geared mechanism that goes under the cover and attaches to the crank. Here's a step by step for you. BTW, it generally is the switch that fails, not the motor. Most folks immediately seize on the motor as the culprit. As of a few years ago, the switch was still available from Volvo. I always pull the switches when I run across them for my own car and keep one in the glove box along with a fuel pump relay and o.d. relay and the odd fuse or two.
Here's the step by step...

U p d a t e !!!!!!!
I went to the Pick n Pull yesterday and found a 91 740 with a manual sunroof...
I took it all out and was looking forward to my new manual sunroof!
I went and installed it in my 940 in the parking lot.
It was truly plug n play... I had it in in 5 minutes.
I had an issue with the new cover fitting in. But I didnt have time to mess with it... Im sure Ill get it in this week.
Dont want to worry about motors and switches???? GO MANUAL!!!!!

With a phillips screwdriver.
Go to the yard and find your manual drive (take the cover too). Pulling it out is basically the reverse of how youll install it in yours. KEEP THE MOUNTING SCREWS! they are different than those holding your motor in.
Remove the plastic cover
Remove the bolts and screws holding the motor in.
Dont be alarmed at this point... when you see the screws on the motor they are farther apart than the holes on the manual gear... the roof has two sets of holes drilled in it.
once the motor is unbolted, disconnect the harness. And thats it.
install your new manual gear in the holes provided
install the cover, and then the handle....
And begin loving life in your 940 with a manual roof!
