Default Mass Air Flow Meter

My 92 240 wagon has 207K miles. It has been running sluggishly and Check engine light is on. Dealership says I need a new mass air flow meter- with install about $600.00.
Any other more economical suggestions?

get one from junk yard $40-$60 at a pick yoour own. Get mass meter cleaner and clean the crap out of it. either that or find someone parting one out on craigslist from one known to b good. Then clean the crap out of it too. you can put it on unless you have a reason you cant use a screw driver.

buy a manual so you can learn to check the codes yourself. Unfortunately, most techs at Volvo today are not really familiar w/ rwd's. It may need an AMM...but it might not. The connectors to the amm often get corroded or bent, causing the same symptoms and codes. I can't stress how important it is for most of us to know our cars. If you depend on Volvo for routine maintenance I hope you have deep pockets. Keep us posted...
