air flow meter ?

Default air flow meter ?
Ihave a 2000 volvo s40,
Itook the air flow meter outand in that big tube after the air flow meter, there was a strong smell of gas. Why was there a gas smellin there? I do not think there should be a gas smell in that big tube.

Maybe the fuel pressure regulator is bad.

After the car sits for a while does it take a while to start?
