My 1989 240 is cranky
I started the car for work this morning and it ran for about two seconds and then stalled. The engine will turn over until kingdom come, but it won't start back up. I don't know if it's related, but my gas gauge has not worked for about a month. Any and all hints are appreciated. Thanks for your time.

If your gas gauge does not work obviously you may be out of gas so try that first. I would look at the Mass Air Flow Sensor too. Check to make sure that the hose from the throttle body to the MAF is connected and free of holes. Dissconnect the wiring from the MAF and try to start the engine, if it starts you have your problem.

RE: My 1989 240 is cranky
As much as I was hoping this was true, I am certainly not out of gas. The best I can estimate is I have about a quarter-tank. I put about 5 gallons in today, preferring the embarassment of being out of gas to however many hundreds a different problem could cost. But here's another curious thing- the gas will not just go into the tank. It (very) slowly gurgles down. In the past half hour, it has only gone down about 4 inches. It almost started today, accompanied by a high pitched whirring, much like that of those little tube whistles with the fan inside. Because the guage hasn't been working either, could it be a clog?
