Smile My new 940

Hello guys

new member here, as I just bought my first Volvo.
a dark purple 1998 940 turbo wagon 5spd.
Car is bought as a amateur project, (as I am not a mechanic) and I want to give it a minor overhaul both mechanically and aesthetically.
so here goes.

Can anyone recommend a good “service kit” for the car, filters etc.
tried eBay, but could not find for my model.

then I would like recommendations on a good set of lowering springs. 40/40 or 50/50 perhaps.

im looking for a set of Ocean mk18 rims, does anyone happen to have any for sale?

Looking forward to your responses, and exited to get to work on the car.
thanks!

Mann air filter, Mann or Mahle oil filter, NGK spark plugs, Bougicord spark wire set, Bosch cap-rotor-shield. Dunno anyone selling that as a 'kit'.

any major brand 10W30 oil. No need for synthetic oils, just change on schedule every 5000 miles/7500 km. Zerex G05 (or another G05 or G48 spec) coolant 50-50 with distilled water.

I'd avoid lowering it, it will just make the ride harsher on rough roads, and not really improve handling unless you're setting it up for a race track. ditto wheels over 16", just means much more expensive tires, and higher risk of pinch flats on potholes and such.

Hi Pierce

Thanks for your answer.
regarding the setup, the car is meant to be a fun sleeper in the future.
I have always loved the “unlikely race car”, and the 940 ticks all the right boxes.
However, before getting deeper into modifying it, I want to give the engine a overhaul, and also lower it and change the wheels.

any recommendations would be highly appreciated.

thanks

I'd think if you'd want a 'sleeper' you'd want stock looking wheels and height. if its been lowered and sitting on ghetto wheels it hints there's likely been stuff done under the hood, too.
