My volvo is runnin' bad help me.
I am new to the Volvo world and am running into a problem and dont know where to start. Its a 1986 Volvo 240 GL with 203,000 miles and very hard to start and when it does eventually start it runs but backfires and burns alot of fuel. At idle you need to keep the rpm's up to keep it running. It will stall out if the rpm's arent keep up. Please help so I can avoid the dealer. Thanks.
I would start with a normal tuneup unless you know the existing parts are good. Spark plugs, either Bosch WR7DC or NGK BPR6ES. As long as they're copper. Ignition wires, Bougicord. Distributor cap and rotor, Bosch. Check your vacuum lines for split or open connections. The one from the fuel pressure regulator to the intake manifold is important. Check for leaking air intake hose, the accordion hose that goes from the air mass meter to the throttle body.
