Default myth busters question

So,

when i was driving the 240 on a day to day basis, the brakes would need attention all too often. I was told twice that the reason my brakes (rotors in particular) needed work all the time was because the shocks were so bad. I guess the theory at the time was that because of the weight of the car and the inefficiency of the shocks to support it the brake rotors would warp with the extra heat involved in stopping the displaced weight.

Now, this all sounds bogus to me but i'd still like to hear what yall have to say about it.

How often are you having to replace rotors and why? I have 250,000 miles on mine and have never replaced rotors and I live in the mountains. I use soft pads and do not mind changing them. Volvo brakes are exceptional. I wish all my cars had them.

I forget what year is it?
Are they solid or vented rotors?
Do you hit many puddles after it rans when the brakes are hot?

All of that plays a factor in the puzzle.

It's a 1991 and they are solid rotors. This was in Atlanta Georgia so lots of stop and go trafic with numerous afternoon thunder showers (yes to the pudles).

Oh i don't know....twice a year. But the thing is i was only having the problem for a year and a half. Not much data to form an opinion on really. For all i know they could have been cheap/defective rotors. About every 7-8 months the front rotors would warp REALLY bad and the pads would need replacement. The pads got warrenteed out but the rotors would not. Two separate techs told me that because i was unwilling to address the shocks issue they wouldn't warrenty the rotors. When i got the same story from the second tech i thought maybe they were onto something.

I put the car in storage about a month after the problem started the second time so i still have the warped discs and crappy pads on the car. I'd like to track this problem down before i go nuts on restoring it.

If they are Solids which is Rare on your car. They should be Vented switch to Vented and they should last alot longer.

I'll check to make sure...

What's the verdict if they are vented?

You might be getting them to hot then hitting a Puddle.
That will warp them really fast.

I still haven't checked.....however, they probably are vented since i was thinking of something COMPLETELY different when the question was asked.

I'd give you the point if the rotors were just noticably wobbly.... but these rotors are shaking so bad i was getting laughed at when i drove to the local mountain biking coarse (that's as far as i'll take Geeves these days....still don't fully trust the two year storage aspect of the whole equation). I could see the puddle factor causing a little shudder but to be able to see my car shaking from a block away makes me think there's something bigger going on here.

Maybe I'm worng....if i am I'm going to get better rotors...thicker, stronger, sexier rotors.....before all the rust under my car falls away.
