Default Need Advice Fast: Replacing the Turbo on a 1992 740

I'm looking at a 1992 740 Turbo Wagon. The car smokes a bit because the turbo is leaking oil from/into the intercooler. How difficult is it to replace the turbo?

thanks,
Dan

It isn't all that hard to replace it.

I'm getting for $400 a 1992 740 Turbo Wagon. It needs a new turbocharger, as stated before, and new rotors. The title is rebuilt, but the accident occured 70,000 miles and 9 years ago. The carfax report shows regular servicings before and after the accident. It has 145,000 miles on it now.

Do you guys think the car is worth it? For $400, how can I really lose?

That sounds like a pretty good price.
Also make sure the vent system is working properly before replacing the turbo.

The vent box is located under the intake. Check the big hose that comes off of it up through the intake runner 3 and 4 cylinder. There is a plastic piece that is attached to it with a small vaccum line going off of it. Make sure the plastic piece isn't clogged. Also check the nipple on the intake where the vaccum line attaches.
