just baught 93 940 turbo with 249,000 miles. great running car. I,m assuming it came from the factory with (electronic overdrive). Assumption based on two wires coming out of shifer control handal. I baught a "Chiltons repair manul when i baught the car but nothing even indicating that over drive was offerd by Volvo anywhere in the over sized coaster it has turned into. where can I get something in print on just what kind of tranny my car has and how to fix issue at hand

 

A turbo with an automatic (there are very very few manuals on US soil) has the AW71 transmission, which has an automatic overdrive that acts as a 4th gear, and can be electrically disabled.

you haven't said what the 'issue at hand' is here. actually, you really should start a new thread in the 240/740/940 section. describe the symptoms and any history you have on the car.
