New 949SE, questions about nivomatic, drivers seat repair, PS pump.
Let's make that a 940SE, sorry. Can someone tell me how to tell if I have the self leveling suspension option on this car? I have to replace struts/shocks but want to make sure I don't have self leveling option. I have the rear shocks in the usual place but they are definitely original as they have the black accordion boots visible, does this mean anything?
Also, my steering pump is a tad noisy. The fluid is BLACK, I'm sure (like the diff) it's never been changed, the pump should be pretty quiet no? Any chance a fluid change will silence it? If not, there's several at the local pick n' pull, the one off of a 240 looks identical, or should I use the higher millage one off an actual 940?
Lastly, my seat back tilt is inop. I can get seat parts cheap right now, there's a switch box, and if I want, the motor. Tomorrow I will pull at least the switch box, maybe the motor if indicated. Any ideas what usually goes wrong in this department? Can I even pull that particular motor from the seat?
Please and thank you ;-)

The SE sedan came with the Nivomats. The only way to tell if they are still there is to look at them lest they were already replaced with regular shocks.
The PS black fluid is not good, indicates metal flakes in the system due to a worn rack. I would first change the fluid, see what happens.
Does the seat back work at all? Is it off kilter or nothing happens when the switch is applied? Normally the cables are the problem, the motors rarely go bad; could also be the switch.

It's got Nivomats for sure, they are big and blue and have the accordion boot. The thing that was confusing me was a forum post about how to delete them and install standard shocks/springs on 7xx and 9xx. The photos show the lower mounting bracket on the Nivo 7XX as having a "bar" that was bent and vertical attachment bolts which mine didn't have. So I was seeing a nivomat shock and but a standard shock style lower mount which was doing my head in a bit till I realized that apparently the poster was wrong and 9 series nivomats have a different style of lower mount, basically.. I think, the same as a standard shock. So, I believe I'm only looking at standard shocks, and some standard springs and it looks like that's all that's required. Also, the fact that mine is a 940 SE which I hear is really a disguised 960 might be why I'm seeing a lower mount that does not conform to the norm?
On the pump, I'm going to yank a pump off a donor which has good colored fluid and then change it. I'd hate to put good synthetic fluid in it and go to all the work to flush it just to have the pump whining when I'm done. I do know the boots on the rack are dry, so no seals leaking yet... I think the color might be from old hoses? Wishful thinking ? I guess i can test with a magnet and see if stuff sticks to it.
The seat is silent... must be the switch? Luckily there's one in the Pick N Pull so stuff's cheap, only need to decide if I want to go to the trouble of trying to rob the motor off of the seat. Thanks
