Default New guy from Florida

What's up

I currently drive a 02 WS6 but maybe purchasing a 93 940 as a little project car. The transmission is apparently bad on the car and the guy is selling it real cheap. I am looking into buying it and possibly throwing in an LS1. If you guys could fill me in with any info on what the stock car can handle has far as power and how easy or difficult it would be to swap the motor into the car would be greatly appreaciated.

Sweet, another Floridian! What part of the state are u in? There's a few of us here in Orlando and scattered all over the state. Not as many like the Cali. Group or up north, but we're still growing! I don't think I have ever heard of a LS1 in a 9 series but I bet that sucker would just SCREAM! Welcome!

I live in the Tampa area. I'm still debating on getting the car. He is selling it for $150 bucks, paint is shot and the interior isn't in great shape but the motor runs fine and and the AC works. Depending on how much a tranny will run me or if I can swap in a T56 or a 4l80e/4l60e I may pick the car up. Can't go wrong for $150 right?

If the only thing prohibiting the car to be driven is the tranny, I'd say go for it. You really can't go too wrong for 150 bucks. I'm sure you could even part it out for more than that.

I don't think I've seen a 940 with an LS1 in it, but there are plenty of 740's around, so I don't thin the 940 would be much different.

Sounds like a great project. I'd say go for it. Damn I miss my 99 M6 TA...

Holy Cow! The interior is worth $150 all day, every day!........ Go pick that up and we can try and help u find a tranny (hehe)........... That's a killer deal. Even if you got it home and parted it out, you could junk it for $200 after being parted!

Well, I've been pricing this out and I am looking at possibly going with a 5.3L with some ported heads and a "little" cam and put it together to a T56 6-speed and once I make her nice and pretty throw on a turbo or two...... I wan't to try and keep this as cheap as possible so we will see what happends. I also want to try and make it somewhat of a sleeper (as much as I can with a V8 and a "little" cam) and not worry to much about the outside of the car except maybe some so so rims and some nice rubber to help her hook up. I am also trying to keep this on a realistic budget. I'm gonna have to cram some numbers tonight and tomorrow and come up with a nice budget with some money set aside on the account that I am going to break some parts and will need a lot of beer.

I've never put a ls1 in a 740/940,but have installed them in 240's and a couple of s10 blazers. The car can handle the power but the Dana rear won't take a lot of abuse. The motor mounts, frame mounts, and trans mount will have to be fabricated. You'll need a new oil pan, pickup tube, windage tray, and dipstick tube before you can start any mount fabrication.Exhaust will have to be fabbed up,stock camaro manifolds may fit. You'll also need a drive shaft,I recommend the Drive Shaft Shop, they do excellent work and have a life time guarantee. The wiring harness is also a real pain in the rear. The few things I mentioned above is just scratching the surface of the swap.If this is your first engine swap, especialy in a volvo I would recommend a Gen1 swap, maybe something with a TPI setup.
I'm not trying to talk you out of doing the swap, but it takes a lot of time and a lot of $$$ to do a ls1 swap.

Good luck with your swap.

Thanks for the input if you have any other info on doing the swap I would really appreciate it. I have been looking for a project for a while now, I originally wanted an S10 Blazer but never came across one and this kinda just fell in my lap, plus for $150 I can't really pass it up. I thought about going with a Gen I but would much rather stick with an LSx. I have found a few sites that I am able to use for help. I was checking ls1tech and found some useful info on there.

One of the main reasons I chose the ls1 over the lsx was weight. There's close to a 100 lbs difference between the two.The ls1 only weighs about 60 lbs more than a b230.

I didn't mean an actual lsx engine, I meant LS based motor (LS1, LS6, LS2...etc)

You can put anything you want under the hood. Someone recently crammed a cobra motor under the hood of a 740. You know this motor.

Any of the L motors will fit.
