Wonder what would happen if you put the original MAFS back in? You didn't throw it away did you?

no, I still have it, and I'll try that. But I don't think that's it. In a perfect world i'd buy a Bosch $500 MAF, but this is what I could afford at the moment, and it did work. The car ran great with this new part. Night and day.

I'm old enough to remember my elders in the 70's talking about the garbage cars Japan was sending over here to the U.S., But the Datsun's and Toyota's and Honda's weren't garbage, as we all know. Yes, I bought a Chinese made part for a 31 year old Swedish car. The Chinese also make everything Apple sells, and they aren't garbage.

I read dozens of threads last night, and Pierce had mentioned some things in some of them I can check, like ground wiring by the shifter that I may have disturbed cleaning, and jumping fuses to make the fuel pumps run (if they're not), and crank position sensors sending pulses to the fuel system and ignition system computers. It's all above my head, but I'm going to try.
My gut tells me the Lucas dislodged some gunk in the fuel and clogged my fuel system, or I disturbed some crusty old wires I can't see, and I'm getting no spark.

Checking for spark at the plugs and fuel at the fuel line first, then go from there. Plus, I'll put the old MAFS on and eliminate that.

Default Curiouser and curiouser.

He started immediately this morning. So now I guess I'm looking for a short, or a grounding fault.
Does anyone know of wires under the carpet or anywhere in interior that, if disturbed, could cause a no start? NOT under the dash kick plates that is. I've never gone near those. I'm thinking trans tunnel as I was all over that cleaning.

going back to your original post, does the engine still bog down when given gas? are the plugs fouled?

I believe the fuel pump wiring goes along the driver side door sills, thats about the only thing that goes to the rear that would affect engine operation...
