Hi,
I'm new to this site and to Volvo.
I've owned a number of makes of autos, and I've worked on Volvos but this is the first Volvo I have owned.
My car is a '89 245 with a B230F, 4 speed auto, and straight solid body from Arizona.
The car leaked oil like a faucet when I got it. I'm convinced the flame and/or oil trap are plugged. I am replacing both.
Because most things look original I am going through the systems and making sure all is good. New water pump, radiator and heater hoses and vacuum lines, filters, inner and outer tie rod ends, struts, strut bearings & control arm bushings, brakes, new front crank/cam/intermediate seals, timing belt & tensioner, alternator (the slip ring groove was .035).

With all these needs the car ran pretty darn good during inspections....
Should be in pretty good shape and reliable when I am done.
Anything I am missing?

Yeah, make sure the parts you replace, 1, need replacing, 2, are not replaced with sub par cheap Chinese parts which fail faster than the original (old) parts.

where is that oil leaking out of ? if the crankcase ventilation system aka flame trap get plugged, its pretty common to blow out the camshaft seal, causing oil to leak out of teh top of the front of the engine.

what lev said re chinese parts. get real Volvo seals, oil separator box, etc, and they will last 20 years. get chinese parts and you'll be lucky if they last 2 years.

Oil was coming from the intermediate shaft seal. The entire seal was dislodged. I always use quality parts. I figure, if you don't have time or money to fix it right the first time, where will you find it when you need to fix it again....Most of the items I am replacing look to be original from '89.
