Default Next Step? (Help me rewire)

Thanks to help from member "Blue Goose", I've been able to remove the headliner in the rear of my 1983 240 Wagon and unhook a couple wire harnesses/connectors for four wires that pass through the passenger side hinge (rear door/hatch).

These wires power the wiper motor and the door lock. All four were cut at the hinge, due to stress from repeated opening and closing. The protective shroud was completing missing.

Question is this .... Now What? I can see plainly that the four wires are routed along/through the edge of the rear door, within a narrow channel.

I need any advice you can offer for re-routing these wires, so that they areat least slightly protected at the hinge passage.

Thanks.

MOON

The only thing I can suggest to make it last a little longer would be to buy some heatshrink and add extra insulation to the wires. You can't add to much or the wires won't fit back in.

It depends if you want to do it the right way or just a quick-and-dirty.
The right way is to buy replacement wiring harnesses from FCP Groton or wherever, remove the hinge, and put in a new wiring harness. Better do both sides, but just one at a time. It's the left side that will possibly get you a fix-it ticket (license plate light).
The quick way is to patch the old wiring and bypass the hinge. Just have a gap in the headliner and route it to the hole in the tailgate. This way you will have visible wires hanging.
What's your pleasure?
