Default noise after an oil change

hi, like i mentioned on another tread i bougth a 1984 240 dl recently, so in order to start a maintenance routine on it, i change the oil, oil filter, air filter, new sparks and wires. but after the oil change, the engine starts to make a noice. seem to be the lifters but im not sure. I use 10w-30w oil. Any suggestion about the sound?? thanks again for the help!!!

verify you put enough oil in it.

I suppose its possible the engine is very tired and worn out and has 'piston slap' and/or valve clearance problems, and the previous owner put heavy weight oil in it to quiet it down. the good news is, they will run for years with a bit of piston slap. if it IS valve lifter noise, the valve clearance should be checked and shimmed if neccessary.

I started to get piston slap around 175K miles and now have 336K with the same noise. It sounds like a quiet diesel when idling and hasn't been a performance issue.

thats an oil additive? I've never liked using any of those, any proper engine oil has all the additives it needs.

oil *IS* antifriction.
