OK turned a milestone here yesterday . So I'm just trying to determine what I do now. Being this was my brides pride and joy and she is no longer here it may be time to sell or I could just use it for my grocery getter. Just have to think it over I guess . One owner 1989 740.
You can't get rid of it, it'd be like abandoning an old dog by the side of the road, it's family! It has no value if you sell it to someone else (adoption) so if you have the space the "grocery getter" option is what I'd choose...
If it runs and shifts ok and not using or leaking too much oil and the interior and exterior are still in fair shape I would just kept using it. Depending on how well its been maintained there are preventative things that could be done. I'm not going to try and give an exhaustive list as I'm sure if you asked more specifically for preventative things you'd get a long list.
Things that spring to my mind:
alternator
starter
ignition parts
fuel system pump(s), filters, certain hoses and system cleaning
brakes, wheel bearings, rubber brake hoses
U joints
engine, trans, and drive line mounts
suspension and steering joints
weather striping as needed
lube locks, door, hood, and trunk lid mechanisms and chassis
Anything interior that is broken or looks bad
etc, etc, etc.
I've maintained the car through it's whole life as we purchased it new for my bride. It is now going through my 50K service . Here is it and just a little dirty after yesterdays rain.
I'll buy it! But honestly you should not sell it. My '93 940 was recently giving me fits, and I almost pulled the plug. My daughter was shocked by the prospect of selling it and begged me to fix it instead. So we continue to drive it daily and not just for groceries. I would not hesitate to drive across the country if needed. Yes, we get odd looks and comments every once in a while, but the car itself is solid and reliable. As is yours (it appears).
Congratulations on reaching 400,000. I'm far behind you but hope to make it someday.
