Default Oh man do I need help with my 81 240

I have a 1981 240 that has a mysterious problem...

Ever since I did the timing belt and head gasket...

It has broken TWO ps pump brackets, the cast metal plate that bolts to the block. I dont know what it is? The belt was not too tight, there were no signs of wear on the bracket before installation... what could it be?

Here is a picture...

There is no logical explanation! If you break a third, call a priest.

I think I will just drive it w/o PS for a while... Those brackets are hard to come by, and ridiculously expensive online.

Any ideas let me know.

I'd guess at misalignment, especially you saying ever since you did the timing belt, I'd be looking at the crank pulley. MAybe its not seated right.

I'd try to get the bracket mig welded, its a good excuse to buy a welder too.

How can I verify that the crank pulley is seated properly? If it isnt... What is the procedure for seating it properly?

Look at the alignment of the belt from the side.
You sure you put the belt in the right slot?

The crank is keyed onto the shaft with a woodruff key type thingy, if its too far out I'd unbolt it and refit it to be sure its on right.
