Default oil questions.

Hey everyone. I noticed that the 240 manual encourages 15w40 for the summer months. But that was the recommendation in 1988 and I could only find diesel engine oil 15w40. Can I put diesel oil in my 240??? What has changed since 1988?

Basically I'm wondering because it's hopefully going to cool off here in philadelphia soon and I'd like to change the oil to one that is going to transition to the cold well. Any recommendations/tips would be great. Thanks.

Yup, that was 88 alright. And...the motor under the hood of your car's 88 technology. Regardless, living in Philly, you can use 10W30 pretty much year round.

FYR, 15w40 is just about always gonna be "diesel oil", but if you read the label it's ok to use it for gasoline engines. I use Mobil Delvac 15w40 in both my Volvos, mainly because they both use a couple of quarts between 5000 mile changes, I drive my cars pretty hard, and I live in Texas, where it's miserably hot most of the year. In Philly I, too, would definitely stick with the 10w30 unless you've got oil consumption issues, especially in the winter.
