Default Old dog , new trick oil change

Last year one of my kids bought his Audi A4 home for an oil change. Even though I have a lift in my garage it was a PITA to do. You have to remove all of the plastic covers under the car to get at the drain plug. It adds maybe an extra 20-30 mins to do the change and the oil filter is mounted on top of the engine. So I decided to buy one of the vacuum oil extractors to simplify the process. Well I didn't use it until yesterday on my wife's 89 740GL. So before I started I check the oil on the dip stick and it was full. I inserted the tube in the dip stick tube and pumped the tank maybe 10-15 times. In maybe 5-8 minutes it finished sucking out a little over 4 qts. Stuck in the dip stick and got no reading. Now the interesting part was as it was working I removed the heat shroud and pipe on the exhaust manifold to get at the filter.I put the paper towels under the filter and as I normally do put a plastic bag around the filter as I remove it. No oil came out as the filter was sucked dry too. So being a skeptic I lifted the car and pulled the drain plug and all I got were a few drips similar to when you do a normal oil change. So it looks like I'll be using this on most of our cars.Just an FYI

yeah, I haven't messed with a drain plug at ALL since I got a 'topsider'.

way easy. I've even used it for changing transmission fluid (suck, refill, run engine for a bit in gear to circulate the torque converter and tranny cooler, repeat... 3-4 repeats later its coming out clean, good to go), and even my power steering juice (same thing, suck, fill, cycle steering stop to stop to stop, repeat until clean).
